Sloan-C Certificate (2010)
The Sloan-C Online Teaching Certificate prepares faculty to teach and improve online courses using the Sloan-C pillars of quality in online education--learning effectiveness, scale, faculty and student satisfaction, and access. A unique feature of the certificate program is that expert mentors work individually with each certificate candidate to accomplish specific goals. The certificate consists of a 9-week foundational course and a variety of learning tracks that focus on improving overall competency within a specific area of academic focus. The workshops in each track are structured to encourage skill development and practical application within the participants' specific job function. Following is the upcoming workshops for 2010. These plans are tentative and subject to change, there are also many workshops currently in the process of being added to this list. The majority of Sloan-C workshops, including workshops that are not yet listed here, are planned to be offered in the Sloan-C College Pass™, however we reserve the right to produce workshops for special purposes that are not included. For workshops not included in the College Pass, we will note in the workshop description when the workshops are listed on the home workshop page. Sloan-C College Pass™ does not cover additional fees that might apply with Sloan-C Certificates or Certification.
Technology Used in the Online Workshops
Elluminate™ Live! ™: Elluminate’s powerful Live! software will take this workshop to a whole new level of interaction. Well suited for the classroom environment, Live! provides the flexibility our workshop needs, from a speaker delivering to hundreds of workshop participants, from a speaker delivering to hundreds of workshop participants, to multiple small discussion groups occurring in unison. Moodle: Sloan-C will use an open-source learning management system called Moodle to administer the asynchronous component of the workshop. Sloan-C has found Moodle to provide a flexible and user-friendly set of asynchronous collaboration and learning tools. As with most open-source technologies, the Moodle software is free, making it a very cost-effective software package for any institution or company. We have found though that low-cost does not mean that you have to sacrifice quality. Moodle still provides a robust environment that is dynamic, interactive, and provides cross-platform learner access through a standard web browser.
