In 2001, the Army launched one of the most innovative e-learning programs in the world, eArmyU—a state-of-the-art virtual learning program that provides active-duty enlisted and Active Guard Reserve Soldiers the opportunity to achieve a college degree or certificate anytime, anywhere, across the Army enterprise. The vision of eArmyU is to develop educated, technology-savvy Soldiers who can succeed in the network-centric missions of the 21st century. While the Army Continuing Education System has a longstanding tradition of supporting Soldiers’ educational goals through traditional distance learning and classroom-based instruction, military duties at times prevent Soldiers from attending courses in the classroom environment. eArmyU’s unprecedented academic access, choice, and flexibility effectively lowers this barrier while helping to sustain a competitive advantage in America’s efforts to preserve peace and security around the world. eArmyU integrates educational opportunity with troop readiness, sharpening Soldiers’ critical-thinking skills and strengthening the Army’s commitment to an agile, versatile, and adaptive force.

At the heart of the program is the world’s largest online education portal, www.eArmyU.com. Students can access and complete courses anytime, anywhere, enabling them to continue their studies even as their responsibilities, schedules, and locations change.
